The new format

48 teams instead of 32. 12 groups instead of 8. Top 2 from each group plus the 8 best third-placed teams advance — 32 teams total in the knockout stage.

The group of death

Group A with hosts Mexico could be the easiest of the tournament. The group of death? Hard to say with 12 groups — but any group featuring Germany + Argentina or Brazil + France will be brutal.

Dark horses

  • Japan: Technically strong, tactically disciplined, genuine underdog quality
  • Morocco: A real force after the WC22 semifinal run
  • Canada: Home advantage + a golden generation around Alphonso Davies

Traps

Every top nation has at least one dangerous group-stage match. Germany vs Mexico at the Azteca? Brazil vs France at MetLife? These aren't friendlies.

Tipping strategy

With 104 matches, consistency matters more than individual bullseyes. Tendency points (2 points for the right direction) are the key to the table — not just exact scores.

Tip conservatively in the group stage. The knockout phase is where the points are made.
